In order to achieve the best possible cooperation between the different business development and technology transfer activities in the research centres and PRBB, an internal BD network has been implemented in May 2006 with participants from all the centres. The present composition of the network includes Mercé Maños and Andreu Fort from IMIM, Diana Navarro from BAPP (CEXS-IMIM), Miquel Angel Serra from CEXS, Eva Molero and Carlos Díaz from GRIB, Silvia Tórtola from CRG, Yara Duverger from CMRB and Joan Gispert from IAT. This BD network meets periodically and is open to other professionals the research centres who are directly involved in tasks on technology transfer, business development, patents or the management of scientific collaborations.

With the signature of a specific contract between CIDEM (Centre d’Innovació i Desenvolupament Empresarial de la Generalitat), the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) and PRBB, the research park forms officially part of the Catalonian technology springboard network (xarxa de trampolins tecnològics) since May 2006. The springboard of UPF and PRBB has two entities and two directors. The director of the PRBB springboard is Reimund Fickert, who covers the biomedical sector, having direct support from Patricia Bures from the business development department (BD) at PRBB. Other technologies emerging from UPF research activities in telecommunications, media, informatics, communications and economy will be covered by the director of the UPF springboard, Monica de Forn. Both springboards have started their activity already this summer and have created the distinctive brand name “Business Shuttle”.

The technological springboards are support organizations aimed to promote the creation of technology-based or knowledge-based companies. From the university environment the springboards want to promote business dynamism. In case of the PRBB Business Shuttle this environment includes all the research centres that form part of the research park. Together with other initiatives of the business development department that are currently in preparation, the Business Shuttle will cover three main areas: Information, action and training. Information includes setting up a knowledge management system, monitoring insider information on life science markets, patents and technology needs in industry, as well as communications and marketing activities to promote PRBB’s research portfolio. The action area refers to specific activities to enhance the protection of intellectual property, identification and development of business ideas, which also includes support reaching from editing of business plans to interim management and acquiring capital for the project. All activities will be accompanied by specific training elements and awareness actions.
